This month we are recognizing Jan Sanner, out outstanding Real Estate Executive in Northeast Indiana, a true pioneer in the Hoosier tradition. Professionally, Jan's goal is to provide the best possible service to her clients with the use of the newest technology and continued education. "service is my most important product," states Jan. "Having my clients appreciate my dedication, service and expertise is my reward. When they thank me or write me notes. I know that I am on track."

poodles.gif (12919 bytes)Jan has always been career-oriented. She began her business career at the early age of 11 when she started a business of showing and raising dogs. The highlights of her career were owning Champion Skye Terriers and winning Best Junior Showman at the Chicago International Dog Show.

 

stewardess.jpg (7714 bytes)Her second career was with United Airlines where her interest in travel developed after living in Switzerland a short time. Jan's real estate career began in 1976 at Roth, Wherly, Heiny where she was a broker. In 1981, she opened her own firm, Relocation Associates, Inc., and specialized in working with corporations and relocating employees. Jan purchased the first RE/MAX franchise in the area in 1991 and became the number two agent in the state before opening her new firm, #1 Advantage Realtors.

A graduate of Purdue University, Jan earned a degree in communications and marketing which provided a base for the demands of her real estate career. Her studies with a local psychologist made her aware of the emotional needs of relocating families. Combined with her extensive background in the travel industry, she has a special understanding of the transitions involved when working with clients who are relocating from one part of the country or word to another.

For Jan, her real estate experience has become a family affair. Soon after she started her career, her mother, Betty, became a licensed agent. As a member of Jan's staff, her mother specializes in working with senior citizens. Jan's husband and best friend, John, manages six computer systems and Jan's in-house printing operation. Her key staff members is their daughter, Kristyn, who has been licensed since she was 18. Their son, Dave, is currently with a church mission group and plans to complete a college degree in business before returning to join Jan in the real estate business. Jan currently has a personal staff of two full-time and two part-time employees. She also has "buyer specialists" who show homes for her when she has a conflict in scheduling.

Prioritizing personal and professional goals is second nature for Jan. It's extremely difficult to prioritize when there are outside pressure and an abundance of work, but first on Jan's list is being the "Proverbs 31" woman. She demonstrates her commitment to her family and clients while returning time and financial contributions back to the community. A percentage of her commissions is donated to her or her client's favorite charity in their names as a means of giving back to the community.

Her business is usually from the referrals of clients, corporations, relocation companies and from other agents transferring families to the Fort Wayne area. She has handled 15 transactions for just one family. "they know they can trust me as a friend, business person and some who cares about them personally," she said. She continues to be in contact with many clients long after her sale by including them at her family holiday dinners and annual "Client Appreciation Party".

 

Jan has authored real estate articles which were published in four national magazines. She was a guest speaker at the employee Relocation Council's National convention and the RE/MAX International Convention. In 1996, she was honored as the #1 Agent in Indiana by RE/MAX. She also received the ACE Award, Platinum Club, and Hall of Fame awards. The importance of education and knowledge of the industry prompted Jan to pursue seven national real estate designations. She may be the only agent in the country to hold these nine degrees: ABR, CRB, CRP, CRS, LTG, CRMS, CCPS, SRES and E-PRO. Jan believes that an agent owes their client professional knowledge to best represent their interest. She continues to stretch her knowledge and challenge those around her to do the same.
