The 1973 Fiat is an Italian auto powered by a four cylinder 850 CC rear-mounted engine. It was designed as an affordable entry-level sports car. In 1973 you could buy one like this for about $2400. The car is fairly rare. Because of poor corrosion protection, most 850's are long gone to the scrap yard. Jan was able to find one that had been treated with special rust preventatives and so was worth restoring. It is not very fast but is lots of fun to drive, so it is sometimes lovingly referred to as a "street-legal go-cart."
